This September marks the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign-up month, a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that a library card is the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning.

This September marks the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign-up month, a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that a library card is the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning.

When visiting any of the six Sussex County Library System (SCLS) locations, you'll find all the things one typically looks for – aisles of books and movies and music, newspapers and magazines, public computers and free WiFi, book clubs, story times and so much more. But what if you can't get to the library? They've got you covered.

SCLS cardholders already have access to a host of digital services that bring the library home to you 24 hours a day:

  • Downloadable eBooks and eAudio
  • RBDigital virtual newsstand with over 60 popular magazine titles
  • NY Times Digital Access
  • Research databases and online learning resources with test prep and tutorials on 100s of topics

But if timing and distance keep you from accessing these resources, the SCLS also offers a Digital Pass you can apply for online. All Sussex County residents and property owners (except Sparta) are eligible.

According to the National Retail Federation, back to school shopping is forecast to reach a near-record $83.6 billion this year, an average of $687.72 per household. But when it comes to access to S.T.E.AM. programs, research resources and homework help the most important school supply of all is still free: your library card.
