March 21, 2017

Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an accusation before the Honorable N. Peter Conforti, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on March 22, 2017 by Tyler Demouth.

Demouth, age 20, of Hopatcong, pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Shoplifting, both crimes of the third degree.  He also pled guilty to fourth degree Resisting Arrest and Obstruction.  Sentencing is presently scheduled for April 21, 2017.

The defendant admitted that in July of 2016 he took various video games, valued over $500.00, from the Franklin Walmart without paying for them. In a separate incident in August of 2016 Demouth admitted that when Rockaway Township Police tried to serve an arrest warrant on him at his Hopatcong home, he jumped out of a window and ran.  With the assistance of Hopatcong Police, the defendant was apprehended a short time later.  Finally, in September of 2016 Hopatcong Police responded to a report of yelling and screaming involving the defendant and a co-defendant.  Demouth admitted that he was in possession of Heroin at that time.

Demouth was represented by Leanne Healy, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
