Press Release - Plea of Mathew Hammond

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an accusation before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on May 26, 2017 by Mathew Hammond.
     Hammond, age 34, of Newton, pled guilty to Eluding, a crime of the third degree and Resisting Arrest, a crime of the fourth degree.  Sentencing is presently scheduled for August 25, 2017.
     The defendant admitted he did not comply with Sparta Police when they tried to effectuate a motor vehicle stop, using lights and sirens.  He also admitted that he ran from police when they located him later that evening and after a brief foot chase he was taken into custody.  
     Hammond was represented by William Oake, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Shaina Brenner.
