Press Release - Sentencing of Shane Barretto

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Shane Barretto, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on August 25, 2017.
 
     Barretto, age 38 of Sussex, was sentenced to two years of probation and, if compliant, can request early release after 18 months.  He was ordered to submit to a mental health evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made, submit to random urine screenings, provide a DNA sample at his own expense, complete 10 hours of community service work and pay fines and fees totaling $155.00.
 
     He pled guilty on June 5, 2017, to False Reports to Law Enforcement, a fourth degree crime. 
 
     On January 1, 2017, the defendant called 9-1-1 to report an assault on him in Sussex.  The defendant made up the story.
 
     Barretto was represented by Thomas F. Militano, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
