Press Release - Plea of Jose Lopez Nieves

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an indictment before the Honorable Louis S. Sceusi, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on December 1, 2020, by Jose Lopez Nieves.
 
     Lopez Nieves, age 20 of Paterson, pled guilty to three (3) counts of Burglary, a third degree crime, three (3) counts of Theft, a third degree crime, and one (1) count of Criminal Mischief, a third degree crime.  Sentencing is presently anticipated for January 14, 2021.
 
     In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted that on September 7, 2020 he and two other co-defendants entered the Cycle Exchange in Andover Borough which they were not licensed or privileged to enter by breaking through a glass door and purposely took two (2) motorcycles worth approximately $13,999.00 that were displayed for sale with the intent to permanently deprive Cycle Exchange of said motorcycles.  He further admitted that on October 17, 2019, he and two other co-defendants again entered the Cycle Exchange in Andover Borough which they were not licensed or privileged to enter by breaking through a glass door and purposely took an Oset dirt bike worth approximately $2,499.00 that was displayed for sale with the intent to permanently deprive Cycle Exchange of said dirt bike.  Lastly, the defendant admitted that on October 29, 2019, he and three (3) other co-defendants traveled to Motorcycle Madness in Lafayette Township and attempted to enter by breaking a glass window with the intent to take items from the store with the intent to permanently deprive Motorcycle Madness of those items.
 
     These cases were investigated by Trooper Hendrix, Trooper Encarnacion, Trooper Pall, Trooper McGrath, Det. Jacinto and Det. Erny of the New Jersey State Police Department.
 
     Lopez Nieves was represented by Bruce Farrier, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Laura L. Nazzaro.
