Commissioner Alan Henderson is a lifelong resident of Sussex County; residing in Lafayette Township where he and his wife have raised their two children. He has a long history of service to the Sussex County Community as a law enforcement officer, retiring from Hardyston Township Police Department with 28.5 years of service. Commissioner Henderson served Lafayette Township as a Committeeman and Mayor for thirteen years. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly to keep taxes affordable, enabling young families to begin life in Sussex County as well as allowing seniors to live out their life in the county we all know and love. Commission Henderson was a Director and Past President of the New Jersey State Fair/ Sussex County Farm & Horse Show for many years. He is the Past Vice President of the Sussex County Horse Show, Board of Directors of the Sussex County Farm & Horse Show Foundation. As a certified CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor, he had been a lead instructor at Newton Medical Center for over fourteen years. Well over 3000 individuals have been CPR/AED certified by Commissioner Henderson.

Commissioner Henderson has been actively involved in the equine world beginning in a Sussex County 4-H club at the age of nine. His passion for horses keeps him actively involved in local, state and world show events throughout the country. Commissioner Henderson’s passion and dedication to Sussex County is evident in his participation on several organizations’ boards.

In his new capacity as Commissioner, his door is always open to all Sussex County residents regardless of political affiliations. Commissioner Henderson is eager to discuss concerns, meet challenges and find solutions in order to work together to move Sussex County forward in a positive direction.
