Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Fernando Diaz, who appeared before the Honorable Louis S. Sceusi, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on February 7, 2020.
Diaz, age 39, of Newton, was sentenced to three years in the New Jersey State Prison and Parole Supervision for Life. He must also register for Megan’s Law and pay $1550.00 in court fines and fees.
He pled guilty on October 22, 2019, to Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a crime of the third degree and Contempt, a crime of the fourth degree.
The defendant engaged in sexual conduct with a nine year old child on multiple occasions. He also violated a court ordered restraining order prohibiting him from returning to the victim’s residence.
Diaz was represented by Jeffrey Katz, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
