Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and eBooks. But there's so much more to the story of libraries.

Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, crafting classes, lectures, and more. The Sussex County Library System (SCLS) has seen over 60,000 visitors in just the first three months of 2023, with more than 4,000 coming for programs as diverse as Delectable Delights, a cookbook book club that meets and eats the first Monday of each month at the Dennis Branch; to Tiny Tots Playtimes, a meet and greet for new parents to get to know each other and the library while their children play, held weekly at every location.

Libraries also play a critical role in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. All SCLS locations have wireless printing, and the capability to scan and fax documents, while the Main Library offers poster and banner printing as well. The SCLS also provides access to helpful databases such as Peterson’s Test and Career Prep; and Ebsco’s Small Business Reference Center which puts thousands of business reference books, videos, full-text articles, and information about taxes and incentives searchable by state, right at the user’s fingertips.
